Warrant issued for double-murder accused, Dikgang

GABORONE, BOPA – The Gaborone High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest of Lesedi Dikgang, who is accused of a double murder, after he failed to appear for the commencement of his trial on Thursday.

Dikgang, 27, is out on bail, when the matter was called could not show up.

His attorney, Mr Celsius Rambe, told Justice Oteng Motlhala that he had no explanation for his client’s absence.

“The accused is not in court and I cannot advance any reason for his failure to appear for trial,” Rambe said.

He told the court he had scheduled an appointment with Dikgang on 27 July to prepare for the trial, but Dikgang did not attend.

Mr Rambe also noted that the trial dates had been set in Dikgang’s presence and that he was aware of them.

“This is not the first time,” Rambe said.

“Previously, the accused was cautioned against missing court dates. For the purpose of progressing this matter, I will not oppose a warrant being issued.”

Rambe further requested that the prosecution provide the defence with photo albums relating to the murder cases.

Dikgang faces charges for the murders of Janett Alfred and Osego Thipe on 26 September 2022 at Gaborone West Phase One.

The matter has been postponed to 13 October 2026 for a status hearing.
